Answering your most frequently asked questions about our gyms re-opening
When will JD Gyms re-open?
The Government has not yet confirmed a date for the re-opening of indoor gyms. During closure we have done a lot of work to make the gyms safe to use and are ready to re-open as soon as we get the go ahead.
Please note, in Scotland and Wales the opening dates will possibly be different to that of England.
Will numbers in the gym be restricted?
We are fortunate that our gyms are within very large buildings. This has given us the capacity to space out all our equipment to allow for safe social distancing and movement around the gym. We have carefully reviewed all Government guidelines and as it stands, we have enough space to not impose a strict limit on people entering the gym.
This means you will enter the gym as normal through the gates, keeping a safe distance from others. You won’t need to wait in long queues.
Each of our gyms is slightly different and we will closely monitor usage at each site. Should any additional measures be required to keep our members safe then we will put them in place without delay.
Do I need to book to use the gym?
No, you will not need to book to use the gym.
You will be able to come along as normal at a time of your choosing.
(Note: We are confident that because many people are working from home / being on furlough, the traditional peak times of before and after “work” won’t be as busy as they used to be and usage will spread out.)
Will I have to queue to get in?
With social distancing measures in place, members will be required to keep their distance whilst entering and leaving the gym. This may mean it takes a few moments longer to get through the gates, but we don’t anticipate long queues like the supermarkets.
Is there is a limit to how long I can stay?
No. There won’t be a limit.
What will your opening hours be?
As soon as they re-open, all of our gyms will run normal opening hours during the week.
(Except for our 24 hour gyms. The 24 hour gyms will have temporarily reduced opening hours, in line with the rest of our gyms.)
We will reduce our weekend opening hours slightly to allow for deep cleans to take place at the weekend.
Opening hours across all gyms will be:
Weekdays: 6am – 10pm
Weekends: 8am – 4pm
Are the changing rooms and showers open?
Yes, the changing rooms will be open and you will be able to use the shower facilities. The saunas will be temporarily closed. Members should exercise caution whilst using the changing facilities and keep their distance from others. We will operate a regular cleaning schedule to minimise risk.
Are the saunas open?
The saunas are temporarily closed. They will reopen once the Government guidelines permit.
Are the classes going to be running?
We will be running a reduced class schedule, with limited numbers in each class to keep members safe. You will not book to attend classes, instead classes will be on a first come first serve basis.
This is to ensure that everyone gets a fair chance of attending classes vs block booking occurring.
Simply enter the studio ahead of the class starting and take your place on a floor marker or spin bike. If all of the markers / available bikes are taken, then please try another class.
The markers have been placed on the floor in our studios to manage capacity and help members keep their distance. Classes will be adapted to avoid the sharing of equipment and regular cleaning will take place.
Timetables specific to each gym will be available on our website when we re-open.
I’m an existing member, what happens with my payments?
If you are an existing member your payments were frozen when we first closed. Your payments will remain frozen until after your gym re-opens. We’ll confirm more details when we know the exact date.
Can I extend my payment freeze?
When we know our re-opening date, we will email you to let you know and we will include options re: extending your freeze should you wish to do so.
I would like to join as a new member
Due to social distancing, we will be limiting the number of new memberships available once we re-open. Please add your name to the list to be contacted when this batch of memberships go on sale. The list will be formed on a first come first serve basis. We’ll be in touch soon!
